There are so many NLP books on the market that it can be hard to choose a good one. If you're new to the subject, how do you know which are going to help?
Over the years, we've read literally hundreds of them and, being certified trainers in neurolinguistic programming, we're in a pretty good position to tell which NLP books are going to be useful to students.
So if you're new to NLP or have been through an introductory course and want to learn more, here are two NLP books we recommend: |

|
The NLP Workbook
By Joseph O'Connor
If you like to be guided through worked examples as you read through a book, then this book is an excellent choice.
The exercises are practical and thought-provoking.
They cover the basics of NLP up to about Practitioner level.
Whilst working through a book at home will never be the same as going on a well-run course, this book is a good compromise.
Our Verdict: We give this one 5 Stars. It really will help you develop your NLP skills. |

Introducing NLP
By Joseph O'Connor & John Seymour
If you like to be able to read through a book, to get all the information you need, before going out and applying it, then this is the one for you.
The exercises and examples aren't as strong as the previous book, but this one is written in a more "read it all the way through" format. This works well for people who like to get all the way through, before going out and playing with the information.
It will help you increase your understanding of NLP, but won't help you develop your skills as effectively as the NLP Workbook (above).
Our Verdict: We give this one 4 Stars. |

The Life Coaching Handbook
By Curly Martin
This is one of the best, all-round books on life coaching.
We would still recommend you attend a formal course, but this is a good read if you want to find out more about life coaching as a career and want to get a head start, whilst waiting for your course.
Curly Martin's style is easy to read and her book presents an unbiased review of coaching and how to set up your business.
If you're even just thinking about becoming a coach, you should read this book.
Our Verdict: an essential introduction to coaching, but not a substitute for a real course. |

|
Coaching With NLP
By Joseph O'Connor & Andreas Lages
This is a straight-forward, practical guide to using your NLP skills as a coach.
Joseph O'Connor, as usual, includes useful exercises at the end of each chapter, to help you integrate your skills.
Our Verdict: not to be missed - even if you're already a coach. |

The Coaching Manual
By Julie Starr
This book claims to be the "definitive guide... to coaching". Maybe not quite, but certainly an excellent resource.
One of the things we particularly liked was the use of coach / coachee dialogues, to help illustrate the points.
It's like being able to eavesdrop on a coaching session, with your own personal coach giving feedback and critiquing throughout.
Our Verdict: worth reading, if you're new to coaching. |
